What Happened at Port Authority Today

Early this morning, around 6:15 am a messy collision involving at least two NJ Transit buses rocked the Port Authority Bus Terminal’s fourth-level ramp near West 41st Street. The crash left 14 people injured mostly passengers and drivers with non-life-threatening bumps and bruises, according to FDNY reports.

One bus rear-ended another in the inbound lane from the Lincoln Tunnel, clogging the ramp and grinding rush-hour traffic to a halt. Nuzpost team member commuted through that terminal plenty, and let me tell you, those ramps are tight—one wrong move and it’s chaos.

The terminal shut down for hours, leaving hundreds stranded and forcing NJ Transit to reroute buses to Secaucus Junction, Newark Penn Station, and Hoboken Terminal.

How the Crash Snarled Morning Commutes

The timing couldn’t have been worse—peak rush hour. Lincoln Tunnel traffic backed up for nearly an hour, with some commuters stuck watching emergency crews swarm the scene.

Our Team member been in those tunnel jams before, and it’s maddening when you’re late for work with no updates. FDNY’s Deputy Chief Jason Saffon said getting ambulances to the crash was tough due to the gridlock, but Port Authority Police cleared an exit ramp to let them through.
