Chase Stegall, a sophomore midfielder for DePaul University’s men’s soccer team and son of Canadian Football League (CFL) Hall of Famer Milt Stegall, passed away unexpectedly on June 2, 2025, in his residence hall on the university’s Lincoln Park campus in Chicago.
A Promising Athletic Career
Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, Chase was a dedicated athlete who played in 16 of DePaul’s 17 games during the previous season. His commitment and talent on the field were evident to teammates and coaches alike.
University and Community Mourn
DePaul University President Rob Manuel announced the tragic news in an email to faculty, staff, and students, highlighting Chase’s warmth, strength of character, and vibrant presence.
The DePaul Blue Demons men’s soccer team expressed their devastation, stating, “He will forever be a Blue Demon.”
Legacy of Excellence
Chase’s father, Milt Stegall, is renowned for his illustrious career in professional football, including 14 seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the CFL. Milt holds records for career touchdowns and receiving touchdowns and was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 2012.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers organization expressed their sorrow, stating, “Chase was a bright and talented young man with a promising future, and his loss is felt deeply across our entire Blue Bombers family.”
Remembering Chase
Chase is survived by his parents, Milt and Darlene Stegall, and his brother, Collin. Details regarding memorial services will be announced by DePaul University in the coming days.
